Background

A long standing M&E client of ours secured a project to complete a multi – block heating upgrade within the main school and sixth form centre at Homewood School in Tenterden, Kent.

The project started in Q3 2022 and will be completed in early 2023. Rapid Energy supported the three block boiler replacement strategies with 3 no packaged boiler plant room hires to supply heating and hot water services to the school, whilst our client completed the plant room upgrades. The objective was to ensure the continuation of heating and hot water services to the school to both minimise disruption and ensure a great working environment for the students throughout the winter

Following the initial request, Rapid Energy arranged a site survey with the clients project management team. This allowed one of our consultants to attend the site to further understand requirements and put forward a suitable temporary boiler solution.

Challenges and Proposed Solution

Whilst onsite, we worked with our clients project management team to survey each individual plant room to understand the scope of works and specify the hire solutions. Each individual plant room involved a different hire solution. The first plant room (Block G) required both heating and hot water services. The incumbent Calorifier was to be stripped out so a 250kW Plate Heat Exchanger was specified along with the 300kW boiler to provide instant hot water directly into the secondary circuit.

Connection point locations were also specified and agreed at survey stage, allowing our client to complete the required enabling works prior to the delivery/installation of the hire equipment. This would allow for both the quick connection and commissioning of the hire boilers across all three boiler plant rooms, mitigating disruption to the school.

Following Rapid Energy’s instruction, installation dates were specified. This was a phased programme of works, with one boiler plant room to be replaced after the other. Both Rapid Energy and the client’s engineering teams worked closely across the three sites to ensure a seamless transition of heating and hot water services from the schools incumbent boilers to the supplied temporary boilers.

Through effective communication and teamwork, we supported our client to deliver a complex replacement programme, resulting in a more energy efficient system for the school.
