Chiller & AHU Hire Solution for University in Midlands

Project Background

A leading university in the Midlands approached Rapid Energy to provide a temporary cooling solution ahead of its annual graduation ceremony. With up to 1,700 guests expected inside the sports hall, creating a comfortable environment was essential to the success of the event.

Following an initial consultation and site survey, our engineers worked alongside the university’s estates team to develop a solution that would support the graduation while also considering the site’s future heating and cooling requirements.

Challenges

The sports hall needed reliable comfort cooling for a large audience throughout the graduation ceremony.
Previous hire equipment had developed leaks that damaged the sports hall floor, meaning reliability was a key priority.
The installation needed to work within the existing building layout while keeping disruption to a minimum.
The university wanted a solution that could also support future events without requiring significant alterations each time.

Chiller Installation Challenges

Our Solution

Our technical team completed a comprehensive site survey to fully understand the building layout, event requirements, and the limitations of previous rental solutions.
We worked closely with the university’s estates team to develop a long-term approach, recommending enabling works that would simplify future temporary heating and cooling hire projects.
We designed a bespoke ducting arrangement using high-level perforated ducting internally, connected to rigid external ducting to provide efficient and even air distribution throughout the sports hall.
Our engineers supplied and installed a 150kW temporary chiller alongside two 150kW AHUs, delivering dependable comfort cooling without the leakage issues experienced with previous suppliers.
Our engineers managed the installation from start to finish, ensuring the system was commissioned safely, efficiently, and ready ahead of the graduation event.

Location

Outcome

The temporary cooling hire solution successfully maintained comfortable conditions throughout the graduation ceremony, helping create a positive experience for students, staff, and guests.

By replacing the university’s previous rental setup with a professionally engineered system, Rapid Energy eliminated the reliability concerns that had affected earlier events and provided complete confidence in the performance of the equipment.

Additionally, the enabling works completed as part of the project created a permanent connection point for future temporary heating and cooling equipment, allowing future installations to be completed more quickly, with less disruption and reduced setup costs.

Following the successful installation, the university expressed their satisfaction with both the design and delivery of the project and look forward to working with Rapid Energy on future temperature control hire requirements.
