A major London hospital required a temporary heating solution to maintain essential services during the refurbishment of its ageing plantroom. With critical infrastructure upgrades underway, it was vital to ensure uninterrupted heating and hot water across the site.

Rapid Energy was appointed to deliver a reliable temporary boiler hire solution that could support the hospital’s operational demands while enabling refurbishment works to proceed safely and efficiently. The project required a high-capacity, resilient system suitable for a live healthcare environment where downtime was not an option.

Challenges

The existing boiler plant was ageing and suffering from ongoing reliability issues, increasing the risk of system failure.
The heating network contained contaminated “raw water,” creating a high risk of debris-related damage to any temporary hire equipment connected directly.
The hospital environment required zero downtime, as continuous heating and hot water are critical to patient care and daily operations.

Our Solution

Rapid Energy designed and deployed a 4.4MW temporary heating hire system, built for resilience, efficiency, and rapid installation.

Two 2.2MW packaged boilers were installed to deliver high-capacity temporary heating.
A custom low loss header was manufactured to balance flow and pressure between the hire plant and the building.
Two 2.5MW plate heat exchangers were installed to provide full hydraulic separation and protect the hired equipment from contaminated system water.
The system was rapidly deployed and commissioned, allowing refurbishment works to begin without delay.
A four-hour SLA response ensured fast support and guaranteed uptime throughout the project.

Outcome

The hospital successfully maintained a stable and high-output heating supply throughout the refurbishment period. By implementing a fully isolated temporary boiler hire solution, the risk of system contamination and equipment failure was eliminated.
