At Rapid Energy, we understand that when it comes to temperature control, failure is not an option. Whether you’re waiting for a new freezer or facing a sudden refrigeration outage, mobile cold storage is often the fastest and most effective solution. That’s where our fridge and freezer trailers come in.
What Is a Fridge or Freezer Trailer?
A fridge or freezer trailer is a self-contained mobile unit designed to store perishable goods at chilled or frozen temperatures. These trailers can be easily delivered to your site, connected to a power outlet (or generator), and commissioned to meet your exact temperature requirements, typically ranging from +5°C to –22°C.
These trailers are ideal for:
- Emergency cold storage during equipment failure
- Catering and hospitality events
- Seasonal overflow for retailers and food processors
- Pharmaceutical storage
- Construction or remote site requirements

How Do They Work?
Fridge and freezer trailers use a closed-loop refrigeration system similar to those found in commercial walk-in cold rooms- but on wheels. These systems are highly efficient and designed to deliver consistent performance, even in demanding outdoor environments.
Here’s a step-by-step look at how our trailers operate:
1. Power Supply
Each trailer is powered by either a standard 240V power outlet or a 4kVA generator, depending on site infrastructure. Power is fed via a 15 to 20-metre electrical cable (extensions are available), ensuring flexibility during site setup.
2. Refrigeration Unit Activation
Once connected, the onboard refrigeration unit activates and begins cycling refrigerant through a compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator, absorbing heat from the inside and expelling it outside the trailer.
This cycle continues automatically, governed by a built-in thermostat that maintains your desired temperature, whether you need chilled storage (+5°C) or deep freeze conditions (as low as –22°C).

3. Insulated Interior
The trailer walls, floor, and ceiling are insulated with high-density thermal panels, reducing temperature fluctuation and improving energy efficiency. This insulation allows the unit to maintain temperature even during frequent door openings or in extreme weather.
4. Shelving & Airflow
All Rapid Energy trailers come with adjustable shelving and are configured on-site by our engineers. Internal airflow is carefully managed to prevent hotspots, ensure even cooling, and optimise air circulation across all levels of shelving.
5. Control & Monitoring
Temperature settings are fully adjustable and can be monitored externally via a control panel. Operators can easily check performance, adjust setpoints, and confirm that conditions are stable, without needing to open the trailer.

FAQs
Q1: What power supply do I need for a fridge or freezer trailer?
A: All our trailers operate on a standard 240V power outlet or a 4kVA generator. Each unit includes a 15–20 metre cable as standard, with longer lengths available upon request.
Q2: How quickly can you deliver a refrigerated trailer?
A: We aim to deliver and commission your trailer as quickly as possible, often within 24 hours, depending on location and availability.
Q3: Can I use the trailer as both a fridge and a freezer?
A: Yes. Every trailer in our fleet is dual-purpose and can function as either a fridge (up to +5°C) or a freezer (down to –22°C). We set the unit to your required temperature on delivery.
Q4: How is the temperature maintained inside the trailer?
A: Our trailers use an advanced, closed-loop refrigeration cycle controlled by a built-in thermostat. This ensures precise, stable temperatures regardless of external conditions.
Q5: Is it safe to store food or pharmaceuticals in your trailers?
A: Absolutely. All trailers are deep-cleaned before delivery and designed to meet high hygiene and temperature stability standards- perfect for food, drinks, or medical storage.
Q6: What happens if the trailer develops a fault?
A: Every hire includes 24/7 breakdown cover. If an issue arises, we aim to have an engineer on-site within two hours to minimise disruption to your operations.
Q7: Can I customise the internal shelving or layout?
A: Yes. During setup, our engineers can install either full or partial shelving to suit your specific storage needs and optimise airflow inside the trailer.
Q8: How secure are the trailers on-site?
A: Very secure. Each unit comes with a wheel clamp and heavy-duty locks to protect the trailer and its contents while on your premises.
Q9: Can the trailers be used on construction or remote sites?
A: Yes. Our trailers are designed for use in a wide range of environments, including construction and remote sites. As long as a suitable power source is available, they’ll perform reliably.
