Schools and Universities have a duty to provide education all year round. When a critical asset like the boilers fail, a solution must be found quickly to ensure that services can resume. Our client, an M&E company working for a local council was instructed to isolate the incoming main gas supply to one of their schools due to a gas leak underground. With a long wait to get this issue rectified a temporary boiler solution was required to reinstate heating and hot water back into the buildings with 4 plant rooms across the site requiring temporary boilers.

With the school’s reputation at stake, time was of the essence to reinstate the services back into the required buildings. Following the initial call, one of Rapid Energy’s sales team were onsite reviewing the existing plant rooms the following morning. The main plant room consisted of multiple boilers connected to the main header feeding most of the school so we proposed one of our new 2MW packaged plant rooms to feed this system, with a further two blocks needing their own 300KW temporary plant rooms as the main plant room didn’t pick up these buildings. Finally, the canteen needed a 100KW boiler with HWS plate to pick up the hot water requirements.
Unfortunately, there was no isolated connection points on the header of the main plant room so Rapid Energy had to isolate the flow and return header further down the system to drain down the legs before connecting on to the PN16 flanges on site. Another challenge to overcome was the canteen hot water due to no connection points. With this in mind our enabling team carried out the works on the HWS circuit to provide temporary connection points so our temporary boiler could be connected.
Our BMS system was installed on this high profile site so we could monitor flow and return temperatures along with fuel usage throughout the hire period. Following commissioning the team back at HQ confirmed temperature set points through the BMS and signed off the installation as complete.
With the school facing potential closure it was essential we delivered a fast and efficient solution to our clients facility for when the children retuned from half term. The operations team managed to deliver multiple temporary boiler installations along with enabling works over a 72 hour period show casing the high level of service and work ethic that Rapid Energy pride ourselves on. We appreciate the customer putting their trust in Rapid Energy to reinstate their heating and hot water services
