The maintenance team representing a large university in the Midlands, engaged with Rapid Energy to explore a temporary cooling solution for their graduation event in July. The graduation was going to be held in a large sports hall with up to 1,700 attendees inside. Providing comfort cooling to this area was essential and integral to the event running smoothly.
For the past two years, the University had used a different chiller hire company but encountered a number of leaks on the previous hired solutions which damaged the sports hall floor. Subsequently, they asked Rapid Energy to prepare an alternative hire solution to their previous hires.
A member of our technical team conducted a site visit to review the requirements and explore alternative options to what had previously been used.
Working closely with the estates team, it was discovered that the university will require temporary heating and cooling for various events throughout the year. With this in mind, Rapid Energy proposed implementing any enabling or building works from the get go in preparation for both temporary heating and cooling requirements.
Rapid Energy proposed perforated ducting to be installed at high level. This was to be implemented at either end of the sports hall, with rigid ducting positioned on the outside of the building feeding the internal ducting. The client was happy to proceed with our recommendations so our team commenced with the setup.
Rapid Energy supplied a 150kW chiller with two 150kW (AHUs) – these units fed the rigid ducting. In turn, the chiller and both AHU units provided comfort cooling into the sports hall, ensuring the graduation could be enjoyed by all attending.
The customer was delighted with Rapid Energy’s proposed design and installation for this project. Our cooling solution reduced internal temperatures and provided much needed cooling for the attendees of the graduation event.
Rapid Energy looks forward to supporting the customer on their future temporary heating and cooling requirements.
