This September, eleven of the Rapid Energy team will be taking on the London to Brighton Cycle Ride to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a cause that hits close to home for many of us.
We’ll be cycling 55 miles on Sunday 14th September 2025, in memory of our Operations Manager Rob’s dad, who sadly passed away from cancer last year. He shared some words about what this ride means to him:
“Last year was one of the hardest of my life. I watched my dad bravely fight cancer from New Year until June, when I heartbreakingly lost him. In his honor and to give back to those who support families like mine, we are taking on the London to Brighton Bike Ride.
This isn’t just about cycling; it’s about pushing ourselves, stepping outside our comfort zones, and making a real impact. It’s about proving that, together, we can overcome any challenge, just like the incredible individuals Macmillan Cancer Support helps every single day.”
About Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan Cancer Support has been helping people with cancer for over 100 years, since its founding in 1911. What began as a small, community-led initiative has grown into one of the UK’s leading cancer charities.
Each year, Macmillan provides support to over 3 million people affected by cancer- whether that’s through expert nursing care, financial aid, emotional guidance, or practical resources. Their services are designed to be there for people from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment and recovery, and even during bereavement.
Their work includes:
- Providing expert cancer nurses who offer guidance and care in hospitals, communities, and at home
- Delivering emotional support services for individuals and families affected by cancer
- Offering financial support, such as grants for travel and energy bills, as well as advice on employment and benefits
- Running cancer information centres and support lines that offer advice and a listening ear when it’s needed most
Macmillan is almost entirely funded by donations and fundraising events. That’s why the money raised through events like the London to Brighton Cycle Ride is so important to keep these vital services running and available to anyone who needs them.
About the London to Brighton Cycle Ride
The London to Brighton Cycle Ride is one of the charity’s flagship fundraising events. The event brings together hundreds of riders from across the country, all working towards the same goal.
- The route starts in Clapham Common, London, and covers 55 miles through quiet country lanes, rolling countryside, and scenic Sussex villages.
- One of the key moments of the ride is Ditchling Beacon, a mile-long climb with a steep gradient that challenges even seasoned cyclists.
- After the climb, the route finishes with a rewarding downhill stretch leading to the Brighton seafront, where friends, family, and supporters cheer on the finishers.
The ride is fully supported with medical and mechanical assistance, regular water stops, and a celebratory atmosphere from start to finish. It’s open to cyclists of all levels, whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned rider.
By taking part, riders not only test themselves physically but also contribute directly to funding Macmillan’s frontline services.

Why We’re Doing It
For us, this ride is personal. It’s about raising money for a charity that has supported so many people during their most difficult times, and it’s about honoring the memory of Rob’s dad. Some of us are experienced cyclists, while others are complete beginners, but we’re all taking this on together.
We took part in the London to Brighton Cycle Ride for the first time in 2023. Since then, our team has grown and so has our support. This year, we have even more people joining in to help raise funds for this incredible cause.
We’ll be sharing updates in the run-up to the event, and we’d really appreciate your support whether that’s by donating, helping us spread the word, or simply cheering us on.
