In the lead-up to a bank holiday weekend, Rapid Energy received an urgent call from a large national facilities management (FM) company. The FM company needed immediate assistance at a holiday resort that had lost hot water in their accommodation buildings. This case study details how Rapid Energy successfully implemented a reliable Packaged Boiler Hire solution under challenging circumstances.
Initial Client Contact
Late on a Thursday afternoon prior to a bank holiday weekend, Rapid Energy was contacted by a national FM company. They urgently required a solution for a holiday resort that had lost its hot water supply.
Technical Difficulties
The initial interaction revealed limited technical knowledge of the plant room from the client. Despite these challenges, Rapid Energy understood the hot water system (HWS) demand but noted there were no temporary connection points available for immediate hookup.
Given the urgency, booking a HIAB at short notice was difficult. Rapid Energy needed to perform enabling works to facilitate the temporary connections, and a temporary generator was required due to limited on-site power. The long pipework run also required multiple engineers to ensure timely completion.
Immediate Response
Upon receiving the client’s call, Rapid Energy’s team promptly created a detailed quotation with the required equipment. The quotation was sent to the client for approval within 15 minutes. Once approved, our hire administrator stayed beyond regular working hours to secure a HIAB for emergency delivery. Meanwhile, the engineering team prepared the necessary equipment.
On-Site Assessment
Senior engineer Mike arrived at the holiday resort prior to the transport to assess the enabling works required. Mike identified two separate HWS systems: one with two cylinders and the other with three cylinders.
First HWS System: Efforts to isolate the system using the inline isolation valves failed due to their age, necessitating a full drain-down of the system, which took approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once drained, a section of the flow and return pipework was cut to allow our connections.
Second HWS System: The second system had isolation valves at the cylinders, allowing for successful isolation and a quicker drain-down time of approximately 0.5 to 1 hour.
Equipment Setup: Once the enabling works were complete, Rapid Energy connected the HWS hoses from the PHEs to the systems. The total hose run was over 100 meters each way due to the plant room’s location and the permissible drop-off point for the hiab. Our team then carried out the commissioning and successfully restored hot water to the chalets.
Fuel Management: Rapid Energy also undertook the responsibility of fuel management for the temporary boiler and generator throughout the hire period, ensuring no interruptions to the client’s services.
This case study showcases Rapid Energy’s expertise and responsiveness in providing a Packaged Boiler Hire solution under time-sensitive and technically challenging conditions. Our dedication to customer service ensured that the holiday resort restored hot water services just in time for the busy bank holiday weekend.
